SINGAPORE: The 57-year-old pest control company employee who died in an accident in Tampines on Monday (Apr 22) was a "big sister" to her colleagues and someone people turned to for advice and guidance, a co-worker told CNA.

Ms Norzihan Juwahib, who worked at First Choice Pest Specialist, had been travelling in a company van to the office when she was involved in a multi-vehicle accident at the junction of Tampines Avenue 1 and Avenue 4.

She was unconscious when she was taken to hospital and subsequently died.

The accident also claimed the life of 17-year-old Temasek Junior College student Afifah Munirah Muhammad Azril. Six others were taken to hospital, including a 42-year-old Saab driver.

The driver, identified as Muhammad Syafie Ismail, was charged in court on Thursday with four offences related to the incident.

He faces one count each of dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing hurt, dangerous driving, and failing to stop after an accident.

"STILL HAVING SLEEPLESS NIGHTS"

Mr Muhammad Farhan Mansor, who has known Ms Norzihan for 10 years from the time he joined the company, was on his way to the office at Tampines Street 93 when he saw the aftermath of the accident.

"No words could describe what I felt and saw there. (It was) utter chaos … debris (was) everywhere,” he told CNA on Thursday. "I’m still having sleepless nights."

The 38-year-old operations manager contacted her family and informed them about the accident. When the family got the call, they “didn’t think it (would be) this serious”, Ms Norzihan’s brother-in-law Rosli told CNA.

The family could not bear the loss when they were told that she had died. “Her mother’s heart dropped,” said Mr Rosli.

Mr Farhan said: "One thing I know about her that stands out is that she always (dreamt) of giving her mother the best."

He added that Ms Norzihan had just become the owner of a new flat.

Her death is a huge blow to her colleagues at First Choice Pest Specialist, said Mr Farhan, adding that she was a skilled senior technician with about 11 years’ experience and had helped the company solve many customers’ pest issues.

She was also a “big sister” to all the employees, the operations manager added. They could turn to her for guidance or advice – whether at work or in their personal lives.

Mr Farhan shared that Ms Norzihan had played a “pivotal role” in his life, helping him with many problems.

“She was a well-loved person by colleagues and customers, someone who always put others before herself,” he said. Her death is a “great big loss” to the company, Mr Farhan added.

"For her family, we send our deepest condolences and may our prayers give them strength and the willpower to overcome this difficult time."

He added: "Not a single moment since her passing (have we) forgotten about her."
