SINGAPORE: Flooding at a condominium car park along Balmoral Crescent was not caused by rainfall but by a faulty valve at a sprinkler storage tank, national water agency PUB said on Saturday (May 4).

"This is an isolated incident not caused by rainfall. At the time of the incident, rainfall over the area was not heavy and the nearby drains were not flowing at full capacity," PUB said in a Facebook post.

"Based on preliminary investigations, a faulty valve in the basement’s sprinkler storage tank caused water to overflow and flooded the car park."

The flooding occurred at The Twins condominium on Saturday morning.

Amid heavy rain across Singapore, videos emerged online showing the flooded car park, with multiple cars partially submerged and people wading through the waters.

A dog was seen standing on the bonnet of a car in one video.

Several Facebook pages that published the videos said the car park became flooded after a morning of heavy rain.

PUB said it was alerted to the incident by the Singapore Civil Defence Force at 7.55am.

"PUB, together with SCDF and the building’s managing agent, deployed drainage pumps to pump out the water from the basement car park," it added.
