SINGAPORE: Singapore is assured of a second gold medal at the Commonwealth Games after Feng Tianwei and Zeng Jian won their respective matches in the semi-finals of the women's singles on Saturday (Aug 6).
Both were pushed hard by their opponents, with Zeng having to come back from two games down to beat Australian Liu Yangzi, 4-2 (11-7, 11-7, 10-12, 4-11, 6-11, 9-11).
Feng was taken to the limit in a back and forth game, beating India's Sreeja Akula 4-3 (11-6, 8-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-8, 8-11, 12-10).
The women's singles final will take place on Sunday.
Elsewhere, in the men's singles quarter final, Izaac Quek Yong lost to India's Sharath Kamal Achanta 4-0 (11-6, 11-7, 11-4, 11-7). Achanta was part of the India team that beat Singapore's men's table tennis team in the final on Tuesday.
Singapore has won five medals so far at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, with one gold, three silvers and one bronze.
